Straightening Your Teeth Using Clear Invisalign® Aligners

Tinton Falls, NJ

Dental braces are effective orthodontic devices, which have been around for decades. They are very useful for people with teeth alignment issues, and they can help to fully restore your smile. However, if you are conscious about your appearance, dental braces might not be a great option for you. The braces, especially the traditional metal braces, come with metal devices, which are not only unsightly but expose your condition to almost anyone you interact with. Luckily, there are alternatives to the standard dental braces. At Premier Periodontics and Implant Dentistry, we offer Invisalign aligners, clear brace-like devices that straighten your teeth while giving you a great appearance. Invisalign are a non-invasive cosmetic procedure.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign aligners are a clear alternative to the conventional dental braces. They are made using clear, barely visible plastic material – and hence are also known as invisible aligners. The plastic material helps to shift your teeth to the desired position, but without exposing your treatment to people. Moreover, in case anyone happens to notice you are wearing aligners, the design and the translucent color are attractive, such that they will not cause you any embarrassment.

How Are Invisalign Aligners Different From Dental Braces?

While Invisalign aligners work to produce the same results as dental braces, both orthodontic devices are very different in many ways. Below is a look at some of these differences:

• The material used - as already mentioned, Invisalign aligners are made from a clear plastic material, while dental braces are made from metal or ceramic. The clear plastic is more attractive, thus making the Invisalign aligners more aesthetically superior. Aside from that, the plastic is more comfortable compared to the metal or ceramic material used in dental braces.

• Teeth alignment mechanism - traditional dental braces use a tightening mechanism, where the force needed to shift the braces come from tightening them. Invisalign on the other hand use custom-designed plastic trays, which are adjusted to help push the teeth to the required position. The Invisalign mechanism is faster and offers minimal risk of causing damage to the teeth.

• Removability - dental braces are fixed, and can only be removed in the office - usually, during adjustments or after you are done with your treatment. Invisalign aligners are, however, removable, and you can remove them to eat, clean them, or ease the discomfort on your teeth. As a result, the aligners are more comfortable to wear, easy to maintain (you can remove and clean them), and have no diet restrictions.

• Treatment length - Invisalign treatment is very effective when they are worn as recommended - about 20 to 22 hours a day. Depending on your treatment condition, Invisalign aligners can help you to achieve desired results up to several months sooner compared (when compared to dental braces).

Cost Considerations With Invisalign

Invisalign clear aligners have several advantages over the dental braces. However, these advantages sometimes come at a slightly higher cost. However, the comfort when wearing the aligners, the faster treatment, and the aesthetic appeal make the clear aligners worth it for many people.
