Preparation For Dental Implant Placement

The Dental Implant Placement Procedure
The dental implant surgery will be performed under anesthesia, and will most likely require only a single visit. During the surgery, an incision will be created on the implant site (after sedating you) to create access to the jawbone. The bone will then be drilled to create a small hole for the implant. The implant (a metal post) will be inserted, and then the surgical wound will be closed by stitching the gums. The process will be repeated for other implants until they are all inserted.
The surgery can take minutes – for a single implant – or a few hours when inserting more than one implant. Once all the implants have been placed, dental crowns or a dental bridge will be screwed onto the implants – for same day implants. For delayed implants, the implant sites will be allowed to heal before dental crowns can be installed.
